I am torn between loss and excitement. The temporary loss of Doug is difficult to accept, but the excitement of knowing that my brother and co-worker in Christ has achieved his eternal destiny is overwhelming. Doug touched my life in many ways. He was a man of many gifts. He had a servant's heart and he used that gift to enrich so many. Doug's hospitality was second to none. He showed me a standard to work towards. He was a pillar in my life.
I wish I could have spent more time with Doug, but, my destiny was on the other side of the world in Vietnam. Even geographically separated we were never far apart. We would Skype and he would encourage me and build me up in love. Together we served and brought the Gospel to Vietnam. Without ever being in Vietnam, Doug was able to share the Good News with those in South East Asia. Doug was one of the best mission partners I ever had the privilege to serve with.
You will be missed, but, never forgotten. I will see you again when my task on Earth is completed. I only hope to be as diligent as you were. Thanks for the pointers you gave me along the way.
