So sorry to hear of Rochelle's passing. I met her in 2012 in Guanajuato through our postings on the Lonely Planet website. We met again in 2013 and 2014 at the International Music Festival in Morelia. She had amazing knowledge of Mexico. We talked of traveling to a couple of ruins together in the future. I was sorry to hear of her heart issues this past March, the last time I heard from her. When I think of Mexico, I will always think of her. I am sure she continues her writing and her travels in another dimension. Happy happy Trails Raquelita!

Rochelle was cultural force for Gto in English and Spanish. She was interested in everything .... manifested her interest in poetry and writing, often on the artists practicing in Gto. She was a willing participant in many activities giving her time when she wasn't travelling. She was an indefatigable walker in a city that required feet on the pavement . We wil miss seeing her at the cinemas, the concerts, the poetry readings and art openings that grace our city. Kate Delos

Rochelle will be missed, not just for being a free spirit and living the life she chose to live, but also for having integrity, both in her writings and in the way she lived. She gave freely of her wisdom, and was loyal to her friends. She will remain a part of our collective memories, and thereby, continue to share her sterling example with all of us.

I will never forget how kind and helpful Rochelle was to my husband John and me when we moved to Guanajuato in 2005. She was definitely a "go to" person to find out about the history of the area, and we all enjoyed her published articles and reviews of the local cultural scene. She will be missed!

Rochelle and I used to meet about once a month for lunch. She shared with me her immense knowledge of history, anthropology, movies, theater, current events, politics, music, literature, and more. Rochelle trudged up my steep alley several times to visit me when I broke my knee last year, and she brought me cookies and books to read. She shared her stories and poems with me, and would send me emails and links to things of mutual interest. Rochelle was one of the most intelligent women I've known, and her knowledge, memory, and energy never ceased to amaze me. I admired her courage to travel around the world on her own, although at times I worried about her safety. And when she returned from her trips, I enjoyed hearing about her adventures. Rochelle participated in the events of many local groups and cultural activities in Guanajuato, and was more active than most people half her age. In a nutshell: Rochelle lived life to its fullest and will be missed by many. Rest in peace, Rochelle. My sincerest condolences to her family.

Rochelle was important to the community of San Miguel Allende, as well as the city of Guanajuato. She was an active member of PEN, and part of the English Book Committee of the Biblioteca Publica. As an avid reader, she brought an international perspective to the books she recommended to us to purchase. Her last recommendation was a list of 10 books on Modern China. She will be missed.
