Richard Oren Faulk's Obituary
RICHARD ORAN FAULK loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend died Sunday, August 2, 2020. He is survived by his wife of twenty-four years Candace who adored him with all her heart and their three children who were the joy of his life- Kristin Faulk, Eric Faulk (Kelley), and Josh Gibson (Kelli). Two beautiful granddaughters – Claudia Alexander and Alexandra Faulk, also survive him. Extended family includes Lois Mitchell, Melissa Mitchell, Anne & John Mitchell, Dan Rolnick (Claudia), Ali Mitchell, Chris Mitchell and Kerrigan Mitchell.
Born and raised in Orange, Texas, he graduated from the University of North Texas (Music) and Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. Rick was passionate about law and had a successful legal career in Dallas, Houston and Washington DC. Some highlights of his career were an opportunity to argue in front of the Supreme Court and being the recipient of several Burton Awards for Excellence in Legal Writing.
Outside of the office, Rick’s passions ran deep throughout the artistic space. He had an avid appreciation of classical music, and composed many pieces for his church, family and friends. Over the years, the Chancel Choir of First Presbyterian Church in Houston and the choir of Pioneer Memorial Presbyterian Church of Solon, Ohio performed various works.
Many will remember that Rick had a way with words. He was an incredible writer from legal prose to poetry. From his annual Christmas Poem to limericks such as “Forsooth, O Youth, Thou are uncouth, in truth” and “Ode to a Sexagenarian” Rick loved to write.
At an early age his grandmother taught him to sing hymns and it was reflected in his deep commitment to the Christian faith. He was passionate about teaching the love of Christ and taught adult Sunday school for many years.
All who knew him or were witness to any number of his professional and personal accomplishments will miss him dearly. He was a huge personality, a brilliant scholar and a man with a heart as big as Texas. For those desiring, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, 5300 Main St., Houston, TX 77004 or the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, 15500 S. Waterloo Rd., Cleveland, OH 44110.
