Myron Joseph Solwitz O.D.'s Obituary
Myron Solwitz, Doctor of Optometry, husband of Ruth Solwitz (nee Berez) for 77 years, and father of three, died Monday, May 7, 2019, at his home in Beachwood. He had just celebrated his 101st birthday.
Dr. Solwitz was loved and admired for his clear, strong moral purpose, his work ethic, and his wry sense of humor. He served in the U. S. Army in WWII, then returned to Cleveland to set up his optometry practice. He opened an office on Mayfield Road in South Euclid and worked in that neighborhood into his mid-eighties. Even after that, loyal patients would visit him for eye examinations in his home.
Myron was a devoted golfer, and played the game into his nineties. He was also a founding member of the Suburban Symphony, where he played the violin, again into his nineties. A long-time member of Lake Forest Country Club, he spent many months at his second home in Florida, but family was his most important focus. Myron and Ruth lovingly hosted their children and grandchildren for extended visits.
He is survived by his wife Ruth Solwitz, his children Sharon Solwitz (Barry Silesky), Marcia Katz (Burt), and Richard Solwitz (Kim Brustoski). He was grandfather to Andy Katz (Emily Shapiro), Jamie Bartell (Ryan), Benjamin Solwitz (Cola), Seth Silesky (Melissa), Jesse Silesky (deceased), and Iris Brustoski, and great grandfather to Maya, Avital, Eitan, and Yehoshua Katz, and Kaitlyn and Justin Bartell.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 10 at Bet Olam Cemetery, 25796 Chagrin Blvd, (at Richmond) in Beachwood.. He will be greatly missed.
