I met Irene at The Discovery Shop where we both volunteered. I got to know her as an intelligent, interesting, fun person who was always dressed in the time. She could fool anyone of her age!! I remember taking her grocery shopping after working four hours on our feet. I offered a couple of times to take her list and do shopping for her. She would have none of that. She was perfectly willing to do her own shopping plus she liked to pickup a few packs of cigarettes as her last purchase!!
Irene loved the large chocolate muffins that I introduced her to and the last few years would wrap for her birthday. She always got a kick out of that. I have 2 in my freezer now that I was saving to give her for Hanukkah. They will stay there for a while to remind me of Irene.
Yes, I will miss her and am only sorry I did not know her longer. She was an outstanding woman. I did have the privilege of sharing her 100th birthday with her at Picnic Hill and that was special. It is a good memory and there are others that I will remember until the day I leave this earth.
Rest in peace dear friend. I love you!
