I considered Glenn to be a mentor, an example of the best among union teachers, a great leader, and a friend. I regret deeply that I cannot attend his memorial service. I am having back surgery on September 30th, and my surgeon would never allow me to make the long road trip from the Toledo Area.
Glenn was, in many ways, bigger than life. And, his legacy of sincere service to his students and to his fellow teachers, and his commitment to the betterment to of our society through traditional public education, will go on forever.
Glenn was a thorough professional who also knew how to have fun. I spent several evenings watching the old Benny Hill Show with Glenn and many of his friends. And, of course, I listened -- totally enraptured -- to so many of Glenn's stories. We did have fun!
