Florence Weiss' Obituary
Florence Weiss (nee Ionin) age 99, passed away July 22, 2023. Wife of the late Solomon Weiss. Mother of Barry E. Weiss of Boulder, CO, Jeff S. Weiss of Irvine, CA, and Robert Weiss (Lucinda) of Storrs, CT. Grandmother of Noah Weiss of Denver, CO, and his wife, Nora Schuchat, and their daughter, Iris Weiss. Sister of Julius Margolin, George Margolin Ionin, Ruth Ionin Hill, and Herman Ionin.
Florence was born in Newark, N.J., grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived most of her adult life in the
Cleveland area, first in Maple Heights and then in Lyndhurst. She was married for more than 70
years to Solomon Weiss, who predeceased her in death. Sol and Florrie were residents of Wiggins Place in Beachwood for many years.
She was a long-term substitute teacher in local schools, working with special needs students
and especially with Down Syndrome children. She graduated from Cleveland State University,
where she earned her teacher’s certificate after her own three sons were in school.
Florence was an expert quilter, and she and Solomon were active members of Veterans for
Peace. Florrie, as she was known, was an Army wife in World War II as Sol served as a B-24
Liberator pilot and survived being shot down in Italy.
Florrie was an extremely kind and giving person. She will be greatly missed by her family.
The burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road,
Seville, OH 44273, at 10:45 AM on July 27, 2023.
