Tahara Explained

Tahara is the ritual washing and preparation of the dead. In our area, the ritual is performed by The Jewish Sacred Society of Cleveland (the local Chevra Kadisha). The volunteers perform this service as a mitzvah. Though this is a free service, we recommend that families make a voluntary contribution to the organization so that they may continue their education and service projects. The images below are of some of the items used: Shrouds, holy earth from Israel, washing cup. Images of two available reference books are included at the bottom.
